Award for NMCT grantee

Congratulations to Lien Giles and her colleagues at Derbyshire Record Office whose Mining the Archives project won the Behind the Scenes at the Museum category of the Derbyshire Heritage Awards 2016!

Mining the Archives is a project to conserve rare and important documents relating to the historic lead mining industry of Derbyshire.  Its roots run deep into the local cultural heritage, and its legacy is still visible today in the landscape and traditions of the Peak District. Much of the written material which relates to this important part of the area's history is held at Derbyshire Record Office.

The NMCT Trustees awarded a major grant of £20,000 in 2014 for this project; conservation work is now in its final stages and due to be completed in Spring 2017.  You can find out more on the project blog: Mining the Archives.
