In 2025 the NMCT trustees awarded a grant to cover 50% of the cost of conserving three (of 16) volumes of the Townend bound archive collection. The Browne family documents which form the Townend Bound Archive, illustrate an extraordinary and rare insight into the social history and intricacies of rural life in Westmorland spanning over 400 years. The collection is of national significance (recognised as such by the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts in 1886) and in demand from researchers.
This short film provides an insight into the collection and to the conservation work that was supported by NMCT.
