In 2020 NMCT awarded a major grant to Norfolk Museums Service to enable them to conserve two manuscripts - one 15th and the other 16th century.
Watch this excellent short film to learn about the latter - the 16th-century commonplace book of Henry Appleyard. It is a compilation of notes, scientific and biblical texts, fragments of tracts and transcribed legal documents that acted as an aid to memory and to preserve family information. Watch the film find out more about this fascinating book and how it's been conserved for display.
Once you have watched the film, read this blog 'A brefe cronicle for memorie' which tells you more about the book and its context. It will feature in the new new Medieval Gallery in Norwich Castle Keep, which is currently under development.
